Mudgee Wine Region
Hilly and picturesque, this area four hours drive from Sydney has a great grape reputation – Mudgee began growing in 1858 and hasn’t stopped since! With 31 cellar doors and a myriad of attractions to enjoy, Mudgee and its surrounds make a perfect rural retreat. Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz are the best wine varieties, and the local produce is pretty mouth-watering, too. Asparagus, berries, peaches, hazelnuts, honey, sheep and goat cheeses, rabbit, beef, venison and lamb all feature heavily on the menus in local restaurants.
