South Australia Wine Regions Adelaide Hills The Adelaide Hills wine industry is one of the oldest in South Australia. The vineyards are planted in the many slopes and hills of the region. Barossa Valley The Barossa Valley is one of the largest and most important wine regions in South Australia. The wine industry is the regions largest employer, and it is a popular wine tourist destination. Clare Valley The Clare Valley is well known for its many Reislings, Cabernet Savignons, and Shiraz wines. The small, scenic valley is north of the main city of Adelaide. Coonawarra This distinct wine region of South Australia is famous for its fantastic Cabernet Savignon wines. The rich terra rossa soil located in the Limestone Coast zone of Australia produces some of the best red wines. Eden Valley East of the Barossa Valley this equally large wine region is well known for its outstanding Reislings. The Eden Valley has very hilly terrain and the sandy soils are hard to farm. McLaren Vale McLaren Vale leads the way in two important wine ways...(1) The best Shiraz wines in Australia and (2) Small Boutique wineries that showcase the art of winemaking and not just the business. Padthaway The name Padthaway is derived from the Aboriginal term for "good water", but we think it really means "good wine". Many of Australia's best known wineries grow grapes in Padthaway.
